From CO₂ to Rocket Fuel: with Bachofen's Igniting Valve Technology

The initial situation

One of the most current applications of compressors from the Swiss company HAUG Sauer Kompressoren AG is the production of synthetic fuels from recycled CO₂ . The valve technology plays a key role in ensuring the operational reliability of the compressors in these highly specialised facilities. The engineers identified room for improvement, so they turned to Bachofen for support.

Projects requirements

Bachofen’s solution

Previously, HAUG Sauer compressors used flange valves for CO₂ compression. However, these took up too much space, according to their engineers, who were also not fully satisfied with the control accuracy of these products. In discussions with the valve technology experts at Bachofen, the focus increasingly shifted towards the Type 8021 sliding gate valves with positioners and bellows from Bachofen’s technology partner, Schubert & Salzer. The main advantages of these valves were their compact design and lightweight construction. Additionally, they offered high control precision, low maintenance requirements, and suitability for hydrogen. This met all the essential criteria, paving the way for a successful partnership with Bachofen.
